Aug. 13, 1932 – Aug. 13, 2008 With heavy hearts, we the family announce the passing of our beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Born in Louisbourg, Lawrence was the dear son of the late Alex and Jenny (Kendall) MacDonald. He served three years in the Canadian Army. Most of Lawrence’s working years were spent as a very skilled bricklayer — a job he enjoyed and excelled in. A very outgoing and personable man, Lawrence was very proud of his Celtic roots and loved to reminisce with all those he came in contact with. He was a very dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 62 and for many years served as president. He was a faithful adherent of Zion Presbyterian Church, Louisbourg, and a former choir member and served on the board of managers. Lawrence also worked diligently on behalf of the Willow Grove Cemetery Committee. In his early years Lawrence was active in Louisbourg ladies lob ball league, coaching the Louisbourg Eagles. He was an avid Blue Jays and Detroit Red Wings fan. Lawrence truly enjoyed spending time with his family and the many get togethers in the ‘garage’. Lawrence is survived by his lovingly devoted partner of 22 years, Florence; his daughter, Debbie, Sydney; son, Scott, Louisbourg; his grandchildren, Natasha, Christopher, Jacob and Brody; great-grandson, Kyle. Lawrence was also poppy to Blair and Douglas. He is also survived by his brothers, Sandy (Carmella), Glace Bay, Johnnie (Linda), Louisbourg; his sisters, Sally (Ed) Mellun, Ontario, Marion (Jerry) Hanley, Roberta Perry, Elda (Abe) Phillips, all of Louisbourg, Jessica (Marty) Lyons, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by a son in infancy, George Brock, brothers, Stevie and Jackie, sisters, Jeanette, Peggy, Thelma, Annie and Eileen. Visitation will take place Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Zion Presbyterian Church, Louisbourg from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15 at the Zion Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Kevin Richardson officiating. Interment to follow in Willow Grove Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Willow Grove Cemetery or Zion Presbyterian Church.
