91, Bateston It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Theresa Mullins on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at her home in Bateston, surrounded by her family. Born March 3, 1917, Alice was the daughter of the late Patrick and Sarah (Gallant) Burke. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception parish in Main-a-Dieu and also a member of the Catholic Women’s League. Alice was postmistress for many years, running the post office from her home in Bateston. She always enjoyed when people from the community would drop by for a visit or a game of cards. Most of all, Alice enjoyed spending time with her family. She was proud of her home in Bateston, which she shared for 65 years with her husband, Leo, and spent much of her time tending to her flower gardens. Alice was able to remain in the home she loved until she passed with the care she received from her family and Claire Wadden. Alice is survived by one daughter, Theresa (Jim) Hiltz, Bateston; and one son, Francis (Valerie), Sydney. Nanny will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Paul (Jodie) Hiltz, Catalone, Jason (Megan) Hiltz, Kingston, Ont., Karen Mullins, Halifax, and Krista (Mike) Almond, Halifax. She is survived by great-grandchildren, James, Josh, Jerritt, Brooke, Ellen and Kurtis Hiltz. Alice is also survived by two sisters, Bridget McCann, St. Hubert, Que., Margaret McGrath, Sydney; one brother, John Burke, Little Lorraine; and her aunt, Martha Cochrane, Louisbourg.
