DR. EVERETT PERCIVAL LINTON
LINTON, DR. EVERETT PERCIVAL - Dr. Everett Percival Linton, 96, formerly of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, passed away August 14, 2003 in Halifax. He was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, the only child of the late David and Elizabeth (Arthurs) Linton. He attended Saint John High School and graduated from Mount Allison University in 1928 with a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry and a Diploma in Engineering. He pursued graduate studies at McGill, receiving his Ph.D. degree in 1932. Following a year of postdoctoral studies in Munich, Germany he was appointed to the Chemistry Department at Acadia University, where he served as professor and later as Head of the department until his retirement in 1975, except for the period from 1941 to 1944 when he worked as a Research Scientist at the Department of Fisheries in Halifax. He was awarded a honorary Doctor of Science degree from Acadia University in 1978. He had a lifelong interest in hunting and fishing and was an active member of St. Andrew's United Church, Wolfville, Kings County, Nova Scotia. He was a past member of the Wolfville Curling Club and the Wolfville Lawn Bowling Club and supported many charities. He is survived by daughters, Marion (Alan) Watson of Sheffield, England and Elizabeth (Ilya) Blum of Halifax and stepdaughter Carolyn (John) MacKay of Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, M. Jean (Chambers) Linton in 1978, his second wife, M. Ruth (Ingraham, Porter) Linton in 2002, and by his son, David Everett Linton in 1990. There will be no visitation by family request. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2003 in St. Andrew's United Church, Wolfville, Reverend Robin Brown-Hewitt officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Private burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Saint John. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Andrew's United Church, Wolfville, the E.P. Linton Prize in Chemistry at Acadia University or any charity. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the W. C. Hiltz / White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Nova Scotia.
