George Drake

88, Sydney George passed away at Harbourview Veterans Hospital, Aug. 25, 2008. Born in Lally Cove, Nfld., he was a son of the late John and Ellen (Matthews) Drake. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1939-1945. He fished out of Louisbourg for many years before joining Parks Canada at the Fortress Louisbourg, from where he retired in 1985. He is survived by daughter, Rose (Chal), Louisbourg; son, George, Marion Bridge; great- granddaughter, Katherine Rose Thomson, Louisbourg; his sister, Mrs. Dorothy Mills Sydney; brother, Murdock, Dartmouth; and grandson, David Neal, Oakville, Ont. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Drake, brothers, Lawrence, Jack, Charles, Willoughby and George (in infancy). He was also predeceased by grandson, Drake Denomme. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to play cards and time at the casino looking for the royal flush. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, 11 a.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brenda Drake officiating.
