ELLIOTT, CARLETON - Westcock, NB: The death of Professor Carleton W. Elliott, age 75, occurred suddenly at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, on Sunday, August 24, 2003, following a lengthy recovery and rehabilitation. Born in Welland, ON, he was the son of the late Weir and Gertrude (Chrysler) Elliott. A theorist, composer and choir conductor, he was Professor Emeritus of Mount Allison University. B.Mus. (Mount Allison University) 1951, M.Mus. (Redlands, California) 1959; further studies in theory and choral conducting at Indiana U. He began a distinguished career at Mount Allison University in 1951, teaching there until 1993. He was the founder-director of the Mount Allison Conservatory Chorale and the supervisor for Mount Allison Local Centre Examinations in Music 1967-1993, as well as an adjudicator at many music festivals in the Atlantic Canada region. He composed numerous choral works, but most of his published compositions are for young pianists. He was a member of Lebanon Masonic Lodge # 28 F & AM. Carleton will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Patricia Lewis, Westcock, two sons, David (Christiane), Halifax, Grant (Carol), Upper Sackville, a daughter, Ann (Robert) Elliott-Goldschmid, Victoria, BC and four granddaughters, Carla, Anna, Gavriella and Abigail. The remains have been donated for medical research. The family will receive friends at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, Thursday evening, August 28 from 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 29, 2003 at 2 pm at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Sackville, followed by a reception in the church hall.
