76, North SydneyIt is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grand father, great-grandfather and brother, Lou Ivey, on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by the greatest joys of his life, his family. Born in North Sydney on August 24, 1932, he was the son of late Stanley and Mary (MacIsaac) Ivey. In his younger years, Lou hauled gravel and coal all over this beautiful island. He later worked as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic in North Sydney, retiring due to illness in 1985. He had a great sense of humour and a tremendous love of old cars and trucks. Lou lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bertha (Rudderham) Ivey; four daughters, Brenda (Terry) Blinkhorn, Bras d’Or, Beverly (Brian), North Sydney, Lisa (John) Forrest, Sydney Mines, Shauna (Ralph), North Sydney; two sons, Hughie, Ft. McMurray, Rickey, Winnipeg; a special granddaughter, Vickey (Mark) Shepherd, Sydney Mines; a precious great-grandson, Nicholas Shepherd (the little fellow that Poppy dearly adored); and son-in-law, John (Bush) Jessome, Ft. McMurray. Also surviving are four sisters, Betty, Linda, Mary, Thelma; five brothers, Don, Dave, Russie, Wayne, Terry; 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons. Lou was predeceased by a sister, Peggy MacDonald, and a brother, Bill Ivey. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held Thursday 2 p.m. from St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, with Rev. David Luker officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew Wesley United Church. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
