ANDREW CORNFIELD

CORNFIELD, ANDREW - Passed away unexpectedly at home after a lengthy illness on Thursday, September 4, 2003 at the age of 80. Andrew Raymond Cornfield of Clarendon NB, husband of Linda (Patterson) Cornfield and a son of the late Henry and Jessie (Gates) Cornfield. A veteran of the Second World War having served overseas with the Perth Regiment of the Canadian Army. He fought in Italy where he was wounded and taken prisoner by the German Army. He was interned in a German Prisoner of War Camp (Stalag 17B) in Germany for most of his imprisonment. Returning to Canada he was hospitalized for two years to recuperate from his wounds. Upon his release he worked for the DVA then trained as an Accountant and worked for Irving Oil and moved to Brockville Ontario where he worked for Terminal Construction for 16 years as chief paymaster. Returned to New Brunswick in 1964. He retired in 1973 from Irving Oil. He was a scuba diver, had taught handicapped children swimming in Brockville Ont., enjoyed hunting and fishing, flying and sailing and was a member of Branch #69 Lancaster, Royal Canadian Legion. Surviving in addition to his wife Linda are two daughters: Angela (Kenny) Armstrong Saint John and Carol at home, five brothers: John (Vivian) Saint John, George (Dorothy) Saint John, Vernon (Eileen) PEI, Jimmy (Bella) Saint John, Murray (Norma) Rothesay and one sister: Jessie Byers of Oromocto, and a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a brother Harry and a sister Florence and an infant daughter Jessica. Resting at CASTLE "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) Funeral Service will be held 11am on Monday September 8, 2003 in the "Fallsview" Chapel. Visitation at Fallsview Saturday 7-9pm and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery "Field of Honour" husband and wives section. Following the interment a reception will be held at the "Fallsview" Family Reception Centre. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 7pm.
