HELEN E. SMYTHE

SMYTHE, HELEN E. - Calais - Helen E. Smythe, 81, died September 5, 2003 at a Calais health care facility. Born in St. Stephen, N.B., Canada January 21, 1922 the daughter of William and Ida (McCoy) Algar. She was raised in St. Stephen graduating from St. Stephen High School. She and her husband Pete owned and operated Algar's Cleaners in Calais until their retirement. Helen enjoyed many years in Vero Beach, Florida, her cottage at the Ledge, and fishing at Grand Lake. She was a communicant of St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Calais and member of St. Anne's Ladies Guild. She was predeceased by a brother, William Edwin Algar and her husband Henry (Pete) Smythe. Surviving are one son, William Smythe, and his wife Peggy of Presque Isle; two daughters, Catherine Carson and her husband Kenneth of Robbinston; Susan Smythe of Portland; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, Tuesday 10:00 to 10:45 am. Funeral Services will follow visiting hours 11:00 am at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Calais with Rev. David Sivret officiating. A gathering of relatives and friends will be at St. Anne's Parish Hall following graveside services at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery.
