THYRA PEARL (NEE BISHOP) GANDER
GANDER, THYRA PEARL (NEE BISHOP) - The death of Thyra (Bish) Gander occurred unexpectedly in Edmonton, Alberta on August 27, 2003. She was born in Chipman, N.B. in 1921, the eldest daughter of the late Whitfield and Geraldine (MacDougall) Bishop. She graduated from the Chipman Superior School, Moncton Hospital School of Nursing and Concordia University in Montreal. She was a member of St. Columba Anglican Church, Montreal. Most of her life was spent in Montreal having only recently moved to Edmonton, Alberta. She is survived by two sons; Robert (Deirdre) of Vancouver and Donald (Cyrene) of Edmonton, six grandchildren; Sarah, Robbie, Cody, Jesse, Kendell and Aaron; three sisters, Pauline (Robert) McCrum, Lombardy, Ont., Vida Maxwell, Saint John, N.B. and Myrna (Brian) Till, Fredericton, N.B.; one brother, Raymond (Marita) Bishop Oromocto, N.B. and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Gander in 1999. A Memorial Service and interment took place at Rideau Memorial Gardens in Montreal under the direction of Father Stephen Crisp, a former priest of St. Columba Anglican Church and a long time family friend. She will be sadly missed by her close associates at St. Columba and by all those family members who regularly visited Montreal and found such a warm welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations have been made to St. Columba Anglican Church, Montreal and the Second United Baptist Church, Chipman.
