1945-2008 It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Nelson MacDonald at his home in North Vancouver, B.C on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008. A long time resident of 33 Water St., Glace Bay, he was employed in Vancouver with North America Construction Ltd and was a member of IBEW Cape Breton Local 1852 for over 30 years. Nelson was the son of Tena MacDonald and the late Russell (John A). He is survived by loving wife, Alice and son, Jeffrey (Elizabeth), Petawawa, Ont.; sisters, Heather, Ft. St John, B.C., Kim, Tantalon, N.S.; grandsons, Justin, Ottawa, Ont., Devon, Kingston, Ont.; many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Nelson was a member of Knox United Church, served as director, vice-president and president of Oceanside Assistance Group Limited. He was a vivacious collector of vintage movies, lover of sports and source of boundless knowledge. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be celebrated 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, with the Rev. John Finlayson officiating in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada, Canadian Cancer Society or Knox United Church Memorial Fund.
