Cassie Ann MacKinnon

Passed on: September 10th, 2008

82, Bay St. Lawrence It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, Cassie, in Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour, on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008. Born in Meat Cove, Inverness County, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Euphemia (MacDonald) MacLellan. She was a member and past president of St. Margaret’s CWL, and served her parish with many acts of kindness and many volunteer hours. Mom loved company and was most happy surrounded by her family, cooking and baking for them. Playing bingo or a good game of cards was when she was most happy, and she had numerous ribbons and trophies to show for it. Despite her struggles with her health, she always had a warm welcome and a big smile for everyone who visited. Left behind to celebrate her life and legacy of love are her sons, Paul (Debbie), Hamilton, Ont., Lloyd (Gail), Bay Rd. Valley; her daughters, Betty, North Sydney, Helen (Andre), St. Margaret’s Village, Mary Jane (Greg), Bay St. Lawrence, Jessie (Joe), Bay Rd. Valley, and her daughter-in-law, Frances, Bay St. Lawrence. Cassie is also survived by a special granddaughter, Tammy (Charlie), North Carolina, who she raised as her own, and grandchildren, Karen, Nicole, Trina, Shawn, Marisa, Lisa, Daniel, Stacy, Joel, Travis, and Angela; great-grandchildren, Brendon, Rebecca, Brice, Ashton, Sophia, and Cassie Emma, her brother George, sister Helen and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Simon MacKinnon, by only 10 days. She was also predeceased by her sons, Hector, Peter in infancy; sons-in-law, Wilson and Earl; grandson, Joey; brothers, Allan, Gustan, Billy, Johnny, and Hector; sisters, Margaret, Mary Jane, Christina in infancy and Florence. The family of the late Simon and Cassie MacKinnon will receive visitors in St. Margaret’s Parish Centre on Monday, Sept. 15,2008, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A funeral mass to celebrate the lives of both Simon and Cassie MacKinnon will take place in St. Margaret’s Church, St. Margaret’s Village, at 1 p.m. with Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please.
