Dec. 8, 1945-Sept. 13, 2008 62, Sydney We regret to announce that, Gwendolyn Lillian Guillena passed on to the promised land Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, which occurred at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a long and courageous struggle. Born in Margaree, she was the daughter of the late George and Olive (Burton) Crowdis Shaw. Gwen was educated in Margaree and Baddeck, later attending Dalhousie University. She was a dedicated physiotherapist retiring from the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in 2007 after 41 years of service. She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph; son, Bradley (Stacey) children, Kaitlyn, Christena, and Shelbie; daughter, Jody (Mark) Poirier; stepdaughters, Cheryl (Peter) Smith children, Cameron and Heather, Ottawa, Sandra Dawson, Sydney; stepson, Brian Guillena children, Carmen and Andrew, South Carolina. She is also survived by brothers, Glen (Valerie), Sydney, and George, Halifax; mother-in-law, Anne Guillena, Sydney. She was predeceased by her father, George Crowdis, Louisbourg\Margaree, and mother, Olive Crowdis Shaw, Louisbourg\Margaree, father-in-law, Joseph Guillena Sr., Sydney. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held tonight (Monday, Sept. 15) from 7-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. The Knights of Columbus prayer service will be held 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday, Sept. 16 from 2-3 p.m. at Wilson United Church, Margaree. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16 in Wilson United Church. Burial to follow in the Congregation Cemetery, Margaree.
