
Alexander 'Eckie' McLeod

1921-2008 New Waterford It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father Alexander on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Perfect) McLeod. Eckie worked for over 40 years in No. 12 and 16 collieries and later became a crosswalk guard at Mt. Carmel School. In his younger years he was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and a veteran of the Second World War. He loved a good game of tarabish and enjoyed watching the Maple Leafs and Yankees. Eckie will be remembered for his quiet and gentle nature. He is survived by his three sons, Ken, Michael (Karen) and Lloyd (Melanie). Also surviving are his four sisters, Martha, Sarah, Aggie, Theresa; two brothers, Charles and Joseph; and his seven grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Jerry, Jared, Josh, Ashley, Suzanne, Abbey and Alex. Eckie was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary McNeil, son, Jerry, daughter-in-law, Donna and two brothers, Elias and Howie. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. The funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mt. Carmel Church followed by interment in the parish cemetery, Fr.Doug McDonald officiating. A reception will be held at the Carmel Centre.
