
Vera Ann Clements

1962 – 2008 On Sept. 6, 2008, Alonzo ‘Lonnie’ and Sylvia (Strickland) Clements received news from overseas in Scotland of the passing of their cherished daughter Vera Ann. Born and raised in Glace Bay, Vera was a graduate of Morrison High School in 1980. She attended UCCB and attained her BACS in 1983. Throughout the years, Vera was a dedicated member and volunteer with Girl Guides of Canada. She was also part of the founding membership of AFTEC Society of Glace Bay and surrounding areas. Vera was also associated with the Elizabeth Fry Society. In 1986, Vera’s compassion and ability to help others would take her overseas to Scotland, where she touched the hearts and lives of many appreciative people. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and co-workers in Scotland. Besides her parents, Vera is survived by her three brothers, Noel (Maureen), Shawn and Scott (Ann). Also survived by nieces, Nadine and Jennifer and nephew, Jeff. Many aunts, uncles and cousins are also left to mourn for Vera. In Scotland Vera is survived by her dear friend, June Panting and June’s family. June’s special son Gary, daughter Karen (Nicky) and Karen’s children Nicky Jr. and Yasmine. Vera was predeceased by grandparents, Charles and Lily Clements, grandfather, Art Strickland and step-grandmother, Mary, grandmother, Nellie Copeland and step-grandfather, Dave Copeland. Arrangements are under the direction of Patten Funeral Home & Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, 849-7520. Memorial services will be held at St. Mary’s Anglican church at a later date.
