88, New Waterford It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Bernadette McGillivary, at home on Sept.16, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Ingonish, N.S., in 1920, she was a daughter of the late Tom and Pearl (Antle) Keigan. Bernadette was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael’s Church, River Ryan. She worked for G.I. of Canada and 14 years with the Cape Breton School Board until her retirement. She had a great love for bingo, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by daughters, Marlene (Patrick) Griffin, with whom she resided, Sally (Howie) Andrews, Sydney River, Jacquelene, New Waterford; sons, Donnie (Kay), Alvin, both of New Waterford; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special nieces, Veronica and Rose Marie; special nephew, Larry. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Bernadette was predeceased by her husband, Dan, daughters, Mary Anna, Evelyn, sisters, Rita, Josie, Margaret, Olive, brothers, Eddy, Leo, Tom, Roy, Harry, and Peter. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass to celebrate Bernadette’s life will be held Friday, Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael’s Church with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Gaul Center. All are welcome. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
