HOLLIS EDWARD CONLEY

CONLEY, HOLLIS EDWARD - The death of Hollis Edward Conley of Hampton, N.B., husband of his loving wife of 62 years, Sophy M. (Innis) Conley, occurred on November 20, 2003 at the Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex, N.B. Born on May 27, 1911 at Leonardville, Deer Island, he was the son of the late William H. Conley and Eudavilla (Wallace) Conley. Hollis grew up in Leonardville and worked in the family fishing business for a number of years. In 1941 he married Sophy M. Innis and eventually moved to Saint John, where he was employed with the Atlantic Sugar Refinery, and later with City of Saint John Recreation and Parks Department from where he retired in December 1976. Hollis was a former member of the Coburg Street Christian Church in Saint John and later joined the Douglas Avenue Christian Church. He was an avid sports fan and in his younger years played senior baseball with local teams in Charlotte county. Surviving besides his wife Sophy are a sister Genevieve Sellars of Pennfield, N.B., a brother William F. (Mae) Conley of St. Stephen, N.B., sisters-in-law Fannie Conley of Burtts Corner, N.B. and Muriel Conley of Saint John, and brothers-in-law Blair Lambert and George Bostwick. Hollis was predeceased by brothers Murrell, Rev. Medford, Austin, and also sisters Hazel, Avis, Winnifred, Elaine, Roberta and Roma. Hollis will be fondly remembered by his cousins, and as a very special Uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Resting at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5542), 1063 Main Street, Hampton. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2003 at 11am with Rev. Ronald Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Central Norton Baptist Lower Cemetery. Donations in memory of Hollis may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the James Innis Memorial Bursary Fund of the Atlantic Baptist University, or charity of the donor's choice.
