JOHN GUILFORD LEAVITT

LEAVITT, JOHN GUILFORD - Peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB on December 16, 2003, Mr. John Guilford Leavitt, formerly of Back Bay, NB and husband of Florence Mildred (McGarrigle) Leavitt. Born in Back Bay, NB on September 4, 1927, he was the son of the late Presley Cooke and Martha Mae Leavitt. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he is survived, besides his wife, by three sons, Aldon (Miko) of Lime Kiln, NB, Gerry (Carol) and Gary (Cindy), both of Leavitt's Head Road, Back Bay, NB; three daughters, Shirley Wilcox of Utopia, Janet (Bradley) Henderson of Seeley's Cove, NB, and Martha (Garth) Hawkes of Leavitt's Head Road, Back Bay, NB; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; one sister, Faye Leslie of Back Bay, NB; two aunts, Ethel Wilcox of Blacks Harbour and Bessie Hanley of Back Bay; two uncles, Kinsbur Leavitt of Back Bay, NB and Octive Leavitt of Geary, NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by a son-in-law, Allison Wilcox, and a great-granddaughter, Baby Alison; three uncles, Otis, Melvin and Basil Leavitt. John had been employed for most of his working years with Connors Bros. Ltd., both as a labourer and fisherman. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was also known as a skilled craftsman. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB with visiting on Thursday from 7-9 pm and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The service will be held on Saturday at 2 pm from The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel at the funeral home with Pastor Gordon Cooke and Pastor Lewis Seeley officiating. Interment in the Pennfield Rural Cemetery in the spring. In Johnny's memory, donations to the Alzheimer's Society, the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. www.stgeorgefh.ca
