MARY LOUISE NELSON

NELSON, MARY LOUISE - Mary Louise (Gorlick) Nelson passed away quietly in her sleep on January 14, 2004 at the Loch Lomond Villa in Saint John. Mary enjoyed a remarkable life as a wife, mother, grandmother and career volunteer who lent her energies and passion for childhood development and education both at home and abroad. Mary was a former provincial president of Home and School, served on the former District 20 Board of School trustees, she was both a provincial and national president of UNICEF Canada and a founding member of the team that established UNICEF New Brunswick. She was active in her church, St. Mary and St. Bartholomew's where she served on the vestry, guild and ACW over the decades. Mary was predeceased by her husband George and she is survived by sons Roger (Helen), Barry (Jean), David (Karen) and Peter (Leslie). To her grandchildren Ginny (White), Judy (Milne), Andrew (Nelson), Kevin (Nelson) and Janet (Osborne) and great-grandchildren Carolyn, Michael, Rachel, James and Matthew she was a loving and proud Mia. Mary was a best friend to her sister-in-law Margaret (Nelson) King and a loving daughter of the late James and Helen (Cogswell) Gorlick. It is with great appreciation that the Nelson family would like to thank the staff of the Loch Lomond Villa who were wonderful and considerate caregivers and very much a part of the last chapter in the book of life for a truly exceptional person. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Visitation hours are Thursday January 15 from 7-9 pm and Friday January 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The celebration of Mary's life will be conducted on Saturday morning January 17 from her church, St. Mary and St. Bartholomew's (648 Westmorland Road) at 11am, with a reception by the Ladies Guild to follow. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. Donations to UNICEF, Alzheimer's Society, Salvation Army or St. Mary and St. Bartholomew's Church Memorial Fund would be a wonderful way to honour Mary's life. www.fundyfuneralhome.com
