
John 'Jackie' MacAulay

74, Glace Bay On Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, Jackie MacAulay, 74 years of age, passed away peacefully at the Glace Bay Healthcare Corporation surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Allison) MacAulay. Jackie was a member of Holy Cross Parish in Glace Bay. He worked as a coal miner for 24 years up until the death of his wife in 1974. Upon his retirement, Jackie took on the role as a full time caregiver of his three children. He enjoyed playing cards and being surrounded by close friends. After raising his children he continued his loving care for his three grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. Jackie is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Stewart) Thompson and Muriel ‘Moo’ (Ralph) Hall, Glace Bay and one son, John Glenn (Mary) MacAulay, Glace Bay with whom his resided; three grandchildren, John Stewart Thompson, Kiana and Beth MacAulay, all of Glace Bay. Jackie was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his wife, June (Cathcart) and son, John Douglas; three sisters, Olive, Shirley and Muriel ‘Nuddie’ and one brother, Gussie. Visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Curry Funeral Home, 755 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the Curry Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
