Harold Vincent Le Blanc

Born: October 28th, 1923

84, Halifax Harold Vincent Le Blanc, 84, Halifax. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father and husband. Harold passed away at home surrounded by his family. Born Oct. 28, 1923, in Florence, C.B., he was the son of the late Andrew F. and Catherine (Brady) Le Blanc. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne (MacKenzie); two sons, Harold and Andrew, all of Halifax. He is also survived by two sisters, Constance Russell (Shaun), Toronto, and Yvonne Lambert, Halifax; and brother, Russell, Sydney Mines. He was predeceased by an infant daughter and son, who died at birth, his parents, Andrew and Catherine, sister, Marguerite Pearl, Montreal, and brother, Ernest ‘Frank’, Florence. He grew up in Florence where he attended Grade school. Later he attended St. Joseph’s Convent High School, Mabou, Inverness County, where he met his future wife — Anne. After graduating from high school, he briefly attended St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish. After completing his first year at St. F. Xavier, he returned to Florence and entered the family business. For over 35 years he operated a general store in Florence, until he retired in 1984 and moved to Halifax, to be closer to his two sons. The two loves of Harold’s life were his family and his faith. A devote Roman Catholic, he was a lifelong member of St. Stephen’s parish, Florence, and member of Canadian Martyrs parish, Halifax, for over 20 years. A daily communicant for the last 25 years, he was one of the ‘regulars’ at the St. Mary’s Basilica noon mass. He met the needs of the poor his entire life, while in business and for almost 20 years, as a member of St. Mary’s Conference of St. Vincent de Paul. A humble man, he loved people and had a wide circle of friends in Cape Breton and Halifax. A Christian Mass of Burial will be held at Canadian Martyrs Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, Fr. James Mallon officiating. No visitation by request of the family. He will be buried with his family at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Little Bras d’Or, at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care of T.K. Barnard’s, Halifax, and George Francis, Sydney Mines, Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a Mass be said for the Souls in Purgatory.
