Elsie May (Snow) Joudrie

Feb. 9, 1916-Oct. 3, 2008 Elsie Joudrie passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, she was the eldest daughter of the late James and Mary A. (O’Neil) Snow. A lifelong resident of Sydney she worked at Eastern Bakery Ltd. during her early years. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, and was recognized many times for her contributions and service. Elsie was a faithful member of Cape Breton Veterans Comfort Fund visiting veterans in the area. As a community volunteer she received service awards from the Canadian Red Cross and the Canadian Special Olympics. Elsie was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed many friendships over the years through bowling, playing darts, legion functions, and travelling, especially with Club 55 and the Rhythm Band. Elsie is survived by sister, Ruby (Gerald) Skinner; brother, John (Mary) Snow; brother-in-law, Thompson Howie; nieces; nephews and friends, all of whom will miss her laughter, kindness and sense of humour. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles (1968), sisters, Mary Ellis, Jean Howie, Tillie MacLellan, brothers, Ted, Ned, Jimmy and Fred Snow. Visitation will be held Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service to take place Tuesday, 2 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment at Alfred Smith Cemetery. A legion service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. by the ladies auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cancer Centre at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Cape Breton Veterans Comfort Fund, Royal Canadian Legion or charity of choice.
