100, Sydney Ethel Gertrude MacLeod, 100, of Cottage Road, Sydney, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Janet (Rood) Ripley. Ethel was a member of First United Church, where she played piano and taught Explorers and Sunday school. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed knitting. Surviving are her daughter, Janet (Allan) MacAdam, Sydney; sisters, Hazel Andrews and Edie MacLeod; grandchildren, Lana and John Darran MacAdam; great-granddaughter, Nicole. Ethel was predeceased by her husband, John; sisters, Zeta Anderson, Edna Antonelli and Beatrice MacPherson; brothers, Laun and Lewis. A private family visitation will take place 11-12 p.m. on Thursday at Sydney Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at First United Church on Thursday, 2 p.m. with Rev. Wade Reppart officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only, memorials may be made to First United Church.
