William David McEwan

70, Sydney Mines We, the family, regret to announce the passing of a beloved brother and uncle, Bill McEwan. He passed away peacefully on Oct. 8, 2008, at Northside Community Guest Home, in the company of his loving sister and caregiver Lorraine. Bill was born in Sydney Mines and was the loving son of the late William Brown McEwan and the late Eva Catherine McEwan (Clark). Bill is survived by his sister, Lorraine Aker (Cyril), Sydney Mines, and one brother, Brian McEwan (Joy), Halifax, N.S. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. Bill, in his earlier years, was employed with Modern City Dairy and the Prince Mine. Bill was a member of the Clyde Avenue United Baptist Church. Bill was gentle, kind, compassionate and a very caring man who was always ready to lend a hand and reach out to those in there times of need. Bill thoroughly enjoyed the quiet pleasures of life while fishing and hunting and at times, in his earlier years, spent many hours with the hobby of taxidermy. After a life altering illness, Bill took up residence at the Northside Community Guest Home were he became part of a loving caring extended family of friends and staff. The acts of kindness and compassion towards Bill throughout his years with this extended family were the highlights of many of Bill’s most recent years. His passion for painting can be seen in the many pictures adoring the halls of the Northside Community Guest Home. His talent is one he and his family were ever so proud of and will remain with all who view his work in the many years to come. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Clyde Avenue, Sydney Mines where a funeral service for Bill McEwan will be held in the chapel on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Quinta officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery. On behalf of the family, we wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home as well as to Dr. Mary Hutchison for their care and professionalism while Bill was a resident in the Guest Home.
