84, New Aberdeen Glace Bay It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phillip MacLean, 84, Seventh Street, New Aberdeen, Glace Bay, on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex. Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Ronald and Flora (McMullin) MacLean. In his early years, Phillip was involved with the Reserve Mines Athletic Club. Phillip enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family listening and making music. Another passion of Phillip’s was Metro B hockey. Phillip worked many jobs throughout his life. He started working at the age of 11 with the Department of Highways, he was a chief constable for the County of Cape Breton. He worked in the coal mines (No. 14, No. 18 and No. 25 collieries), he opened a taxi service with his partner Johnny Peck, he worked for Campbell’s & Associates Surveyor, he worked at Sydney Airport and then Phillip retired from Eastern Transport. Phillip will be sadly missed by his partner in life, Mary Hamood; his daughter, Debbie Smith; grandchildren, Margie and JB (Tracey); great-grandchildren, Michael Phillip and Lauren Margaret. Phillip is also survived by his brother, Alfred (Isabel), Reserve Mines; sisters, Florann (Joe Gimlet), Reserve Mines, Margie McNeil, Dominion, Dolena (Robert) Pitman, Barrie, Ont. and Wilma (Herb Gregory), Dominion; sister-in-law, Dorothy MacLean, Reserve Mines. He will be sadly missed by countless nieces, nephews and close friends. Phillip was the eldest in his family. Besides his parents, Phillip was predeceased by brothers, Alley, Peter, Mickie, Jimmy, John, Cecil, Joseph in infancy and by one sister, Mary Ellen. The family would like to give a special thank you to the VON for their wonderful assistance. To Dr. David Ley and Dr. Butler and the wonderful staff on 3rd Floor East ICU, to the kitchen and cleaning staff of the Glace Bay Hospital. Your kindness was greatly appreciated. In keeping with Phillip’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J.
