McSHANE, WALTER FRANCIS 1923-2004- Walter Francis McShane, of Riverview, passed away at The Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, March 12, 2004 at the age of 80 years. Born in Fredericton Junction, NB on June 16, 1923 he was the son of the late John Robert and Catherine Ann (Burns) McShane. He was a member of The Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. Walter served with the RCAF during WWII. He worked for the CNR for 38 years in Halifax, Sydney, Moncton and South Devon until his retirement in 1985. He was an extremely dedicated family man who enjoyed spending time with them at his cottage in Murray Corner, NB. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Rita (Doyle) McShane of Riverview, daughters Catherine Johnston of Woodstock, NB, and Lidwina Taylor (John) of Quispamsis, NB; sons Leonard (Louise) of Quispamsis, NB, John (Pauline) of Tantallon, NS, Brian (Carolyn) of St. Johns, NF, Brendan (Gloria) of Dartmouth, NS, and Michael (Lynn) of Calgary. Walter was blessed with fourteen grandchildren, Stephanie, Jeff and Pamela Taylor, Katie and Theresa Johnston, Thomas, Bradley, Allie, Ian, Liam, Joshua, Erica, Alexis and Emma McShane. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Eileen Redstone, half sister Mary Theresa "Mame" Brown, brother John Lawrence McShane, infant daughter Eileen Elaine, and son in law Dr. Joseph Johnston. Resting at Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd. on Saturday March 13, 2004 from 7-9 pm and Sunday March 14, 2004 from 2-4 &7-9pm, there will be parish prayers held at the funeral home Sunday evening at 8:30 pm. The funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church on Monday, March 15, 2004 at 2:00 pm with Father Jeff Doucette officiating. Interment will be in Melrose Cemetery in the spring. In Walter's memory, donations made to The NB Lung Association would be appreciated by his family.
