Passed on: October 11th, 2008

Wilmot, N.S. John Thomas ‘Tom’ Layton 51, was taken from us Oct. 11, 2008, in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton. His laughing, carefree and mischievous nature was treasured by all who were close to him. He was born in Digby, grew up in Kentville, but home to him was always Cape Breton. Born April 27, 1957, he was a son of J. Wilbert Layton and Lynette (Gillan) Layton, Kentville. He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Kentville; Cornwallis Chapter No. 26; R.A.M. Order of Demolay and Boy Scouts. He married at the age of 24, had a great love for his family and was so proud of his children. Tom’s extra activities were being involved and supportive in his children’s lives. He began his employment at Dominion Stores, including grocery manager. Then into the trucking business, to owning his own company in 2000. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Hogg); children, Cherlyn, Wilmot; Stuart, Wolfville, and Juanita, Cold Lake, Alta.; sisters, Lynda (Kim) Thorsen, Lake Paul, Carolyn (Mike) McKenna, Truro; brother, David Layton, Halifax; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, J. Harold and Della Layton and maternal grandparents, David and Mary Gillan, Sydney Mines, Cape Breton. By Tom’s request, his body had been donated to Dalhousie Medical Research. Interment at later date. Special and heartfelt thanks to the many staff of Valley Regional Hospital and QEII Health Sciences Centre. Donations in memory may be made to these or a charity of your choice.
