MAHER, BERT (BILLY) - Unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 28, 2004, Bert (Billy) Maher of Armstrong Road West and formerly of Shillington Road Saint John East. Husband of Helen A. (Popple) Maher. Bert was a lifelong resident of Saint John and for a time was a police officer in Shelbourne, NS. Upon returning to Saint John, he became a welder and was employed for many years with Saint John Shipbuilding and Dry-Dock Company. Bert was a member of Victory Assembly. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son Stephen Maher (Amy King) of Oromocto, NB, one daughter Lisa Maher (Russell Carson) of Saint John East, three brothers Harold Maher (Jennie) of Edmonton, Alberta, Bob Maher and Gary Maher (Debbie) both of Saint John East, half brother Harry Maher, three sisters Phyllis Donkin (Jack) of Saint John, June Dobson (Jimmy) and Gloria Maher both of Saint John East, half sister Stenna Maher. Seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, predeceased by a half brother Rev. Brother Basil Lawrence Maher. Resting at the A.W. Cavanagh Funeral Home (634-1712), 91 Leinster Street from where the funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am.
