Mary Gilbert (Marsh) Rose

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved mother, Mary Gilbert on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, in Dartmouth. With her family by her side, she was reunited with her husband Doug who predeceased her in July 1985. Born in Reserve Mines on Oct. 21, 1927, Gilbert lived and raised her family in Sydney and later moved to Dartmouth to be close to her children. She will be deeply missed by her children, Doug (Ruth), Dartmouth, Tom, Halifax, Maurina Fleck (Brian), Ottawa, and Lorenna Hines (Steven), Dartmouth. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Rebecca, Catherine, Morgan, Maria, Andrew, Jordon, Alyssa, Stephanie, Kyle and Lora; and her great-granddaughter, Emma, all of whom she loved dearly. Gilbert was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Jane Marsh and was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, James, Alphonse, Dennis, Sylvester, Henry and sisters, Mary and Delores. She is survived by brothers, Coady, Gannon, Stewart, Anthony and Joseph, sisters, Zita, Adofis, Maurina and Marie. Gilbert was a registered nurse who trained at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Glace Bay. She spent most of her career in the maternity ward of St. Rita’s Hospital in Sydney, where she lovingly cared for many mothers and babies. Visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, Thursday, Oct. 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, Main Street, Reserve Mines, at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 24. A reception to follow in the church hall. Family interment service at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Donations to the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of choice.
