McCARTHY, MARY RITA - The death of Mrs. Mary Rita McCarthy, loving wife of Arthur McCarthy of Saint John, occurred peacefully on Sunday April 25, 2004, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1929, in Saint John she was the daughter of the late Sylvian and Delina (Martin) Mersereau. Rita was an Honor Graduate of St. Vincent's High School, an Honor Graduate of Mount Carmel Academy; member of the Board of Directors for Simonds Co-op; Secretary Treasurer of St. Ann's Ladies Society; Past President of the Catholic Book Store; and Volunteered for the Saint John East Food Bank. Besides her loving husband Arthur, she is survived by her children Peter (Heather) of Langley, BC, Michael of Edmonton, AB, Danny (Tanya) of Hampton, Patrick (Cheryl) of Quispamsis, Ann of Montreal and Maureen Bardsley (Bob) of Rothesay; one brother Raymond (Lois) of Ontario; four sisters Mary Whipple (Doug), Orise Arseneault, Ida Mersereau and Theresa Black all of Saint John; 12 grandchildren Ryan, Matthew, Christina, Tyler, Nicholas, Jessica, Travis, Brady, Riley, Nick, John and Patrick; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by brother Abrham and infant sister Doreen. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitation on Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Ann's Church on Wednesday April 28, 2004 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
