VERNA W. MAWHINNEY

MAWHINNEY, VERNA W. - The death of Verna Winnifred Mawhinney, widow of the late A. Blair Mawhinney occurred with family beside her at the Saint John Regional Hospital on May 11, 2004. Born June 1, 1911 in Sussex to the late Richard and Jane (McFarlane) Patterson. She recently was a resident of Carleton Kirk Nursing Home, after living most of her life in Mace's Bay. A graduate of Provincial Normal School, Verna taught school in Jeffrey's Corner, Saint John, Lepreau and Mace's Bay. Verna was supervisor for N.B. Tel exchange at Mace's Bay from 1937 to 1956. A member of Mace's Bay Trinity Anglican Church, Verna was organist for 45 years as well as an active member of the A.C.W. She was also a past member of the Fundy Bay Seniors. Verna had a strong love for her family and friends having travelled with Blair to various locations to be with them. She will be sadly missed by one son, Glendon and wife Claire of Mace's Bay; two daughters, Joanne Mawhinney and companion Dan of Rothesay, Carolyn and her husband Jack Rogers of West Saint John; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one sister Edna (Harold) Mawhinney of Mace's Bay; one brother Edgar Patterson (Ted) of Sussex; 20 nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; one sister Doris Swan; two brothers, Douglas Patterson and William Patterson. Resting at the Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. (634-1701). Funeral service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church Mace's Bay on Monday May 17, 2004 at 2 PM. Interment in the Mace's Bay Cemetery. Visiting at "Fallsview" on Sunday May 16, 2004 at 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Mace's Bay Trinity Anglican Church, Mace's Bay Cemetery Fund, or to the charity of the donors choice.
