CHALMERS, WINNIFRED "PEGI" - 1923-2004 - Winnifred Chalmers, of Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Tuesday June 8, 2004 at the age of 80. Born in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Elvira Winchester. She was the wife of the eminent New Brunswick physician Dr. Everett Chalmers. Pegi was known as an outgoing and colourful part of the Fredericton community. She was active in Capitol Capers, a member of the Fredericton Curling Club and an active member of the I.O.D.E. and the Easter Star. Pegi and Everett Chalmers were long-standing patrons of the Arts and early supporters of Theatre New Brunswick. They were also founding members of Crabbe Mountain Winter Park. She is survived by her four children: George Chalmers (Susan) of Chester, NS, Susan Chalmers-Gauvin (Andre) of Riverview, Jerilyn MacKenzie (Michael) of Fredericton, and Bryant Chalmers of BC, two step children; Peter Chalmers (Donna) of Fredericton and Sharon Pollack of Calgary, Alberta, a brother Floyd Winchester of St. John, seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Dr. Everett Chalmers in 1992. Resting at Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd., Riverview, on Friday, June 11, 2004 from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Riverview Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at 10:00am with Rev. Jonathon Steeper and Rev. Ernest Sperring officiating. Interment will be in Fredericton Rural Cemetery. Donations made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by her family.
