A. Gordon Rockwell AMHERST, NS The death of A. Gordon Rockwell, age 84, of Amherst, occurred suddenly at the Cumberland Regional Health Centre Thursday, September 27, 2007. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the Late Arthur and Florence (Shaw). Gordon was a member of the Masonic Temple, Amherst, the Maccan Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Trinity St. Stephen's Men's Club, a past member of the Merchant Marine Association. He served his country during World War II as a Merchant Marine, returning home to work for the Nova Scotia Power Corporation at the Maccan Generating Plant until his retirement in 1987. Gordon will be sadly missed by his daughter Brenda Rockwell (Jacques Soufflet), Collingwood, two sons, Bruce (Nina), Amherst, Larry (Amelia MacDonald), Tidnish, NS; 7 grandchildren, Christian (Heidi), Darren, Monica, Natasha, Beth Ann, Matthew and Nicole, 7 great grandchildren, 3 cousins, Allan Abraham, Donald Rockwell and David Rockwell and a very good friend Dianna Beaman He was predeceased by his wife of 35 years Pauline nee Crossman. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777). Visiting hours will take place at the Furlong~Jones Chapel Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place at the Furlong~Jones Chapel, (68 Church St.) Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 2 pm, Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating. On Saturday night, the Amherst Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a memorial service for their Comrade at 7 pm, and at 8 pm the Alexandra Masonic Lodge of Amherst will hold their memorial service for Gordon. Both service will be held at the Furlong~Jones Chapel.
