A. Laurie Nelson AMHERST, NS: Peacefully, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, A. Laurie Nelson, age 82, of Brookdale, NS, passed away. Born in Fenwick he was a son of the late Aubrey and Violet (Smith) Nelson. A veteran of World War II, he served in the medical corps in England. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Chignecto Lodge #11, the Dokeys, and the Pythian Sisters, Elizabeth Temple #6. Laurie was a member of the Brookdale United Church, and the Brookdale Community Club. He was employed at Tantramar Motors for over 30 years. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed farming, helping the family in the sugar woods and fishing, as well as traveling and playing cards with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Elizabeth, 5 brothers, Bert (Bessie), Kensil (Marge), Owen (Shirley), Doug (June) and Stanley (Carol); 2 sisters, Shirley Arsenault and Dorcas (Al) MacEachern; 5 sisters-in-law, Sheila Nelson, Moira Nelson, Eleanor Nelson, Hazel Foote and Bernice Baltzer; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Hilton, Alden and Leonard and a sister, Audrey. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Amherst, (667-8777). Visiting hours will be held at the Furlong~Jones Chapel, 66 Church St., Amherst on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place at the chapel on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 2 pm, Rev. Sheldon LeGrow officiating. Burial will take place in the Fenwick Cemetery in the spring.
