Andrew S. Darragh COLLINGWOOD - The death of Andrew S. Darragh, age 83, occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007 at his home in Collingwood, NS. Born in Linden, NS, he was a son of the late Theodore and Edna (Furlong) Darragh. A veteran of WW II he served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders taking part in the invasion of Normandy. He was taken prisoner of war on June 7, 1944 and held in prison camps for 11 months. He was discharged from active duty in 1945. A heavy equipment operator, he was formerly employed with Dawson and Wade in BC, working on the Trans Canada Highway, between Field and Golden and other areas of BC, later in Nova Scotia as a foreman with Tidewater Construction. He was a foreman with the NS Dept. of Highways and formerly a Dozer operator with Ray McCormack, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Collingwood United Church. Andrew will be sadly missed by his wife the former Iona B. Read, Collingwood, 3 daughters, Alice E. (Joe) Dionne, Linden, Donna L. (Bing) Crosby, Collingwood and Joanne W. (Wayne Nissen) Darragh, Eastern Passage; a son Theodore (Ted) (Sharon), Springhill; 2 sisters, Wilna (Dolly) Black, Brookland, NS and Blanche Seaman, Lake Kilarney, NS; 3 brothers, Wylie (Pat) (Sheila) Darragh, Linden and Edward (Coleen) Darragh, Turks and Caicos and Jim (Cheryl) Dixon, Linden; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Elsie, Ethel and Margaret and by a brother James. The remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst, from where visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Furlong Jones Chapel, 68 Church Street, Amherst (667-8777) on Friday, September 21, 2007 at 2 pm. Burial in the Wyvern Cemetery, Collingwood.
