
DR. OTTIS I. LOGUE
LOGUE, DR. OTTIS I. - The death of Dr. Ottis I. Logue P. Eng of Fredericton, NB occurred at his residence on Sunday, July 4th, 2004. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late George W. and Clementine (Fulton) Logue. He was predeceased by his spouse of 54 years, Marjorie Arnold (Barberie) and is survived by brothers Kenneth (Jean) of Saint John, NB and Frank (Jean) of Fredericton, NB along with several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Esther Constantine. He graduated from Saint John High School and later attended the University of New Brunswick. In 1946 he earned his B.Sc Eng. and was awarded the Ketchum Gold medal. Following graduation he was selected as a Lord Beaverbrook Overseas Scholar and studied at the University of London (England). In 1954 he earned a Masters degree in Engineering from UNB. Following work placement as Director of Public Works for the City of Saint John, Instructor at UBC and Construction Engineer for Caldwell Construction, Ottis was hired in 1956 as the first full time employee of Associated Designers and Inspectors, now ADI Limited. In 1984, he retired from ADI as Chairman of the Board. In retirement, he continued to serve the engineering profession as APENB's first Director of Professional Affairs. In 1998, UNB presented Ottis with and honourary Doctorate of Science in Engineering for his life-long service to the construction industry and engineering profession. Ottis was an avid outdoorsman. Spare time was enjoyed tramping through the woods near his camp North of Fredericton with his hunting and fishing buddies. An accomplished marksman, Ottis was a fifty year member of the Marysville Rifle and Pistol Club. He was a strong advocate for the safe use of firearms and often taught firearm safety courses. His personal collection of firearms was legend. Throughout his career, Ottis served his profession with distinction, locally, regionally and nationally. In 1995, he was an honoured recipient of the C. C. Kirby Award and in 1988 was named a life member of the Association of Professional Engineers of New Brunswick. In addition to his many involvements with his professional associations, Ottis served his community as President of the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, President of the Fredericton Rotary Club and Honourary President of the Fredericton YMCA Endowment Fund. While known for his outspoken personality, Ottis has a philanthropic heart and quietly impacted the lives of many in our community in significant ways. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 6th, 2004 at 2:00 pm in the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel, 160 York Street, Fredericton, NB. Rev. Doug Hapeman officiating. A private interment will be held in the Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations made to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
