C. ALDEN JIMMO

JIMMO, C. ALDEN - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of C. Alden Jimmo, 3 Coates St., Amherst, N.S. His death occurred on Friday, July 9, 2004 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Upper Nappan, N.S. after a five year courageous battle with cancer. Alden was born in Escuminac, N.B. on July 18, 1937 moving to Saint John at an early age. He was the son of the late Francis Jimmo and Leontine (Savoie) Jimmo. He received his education at the Halifax School for the blind. Alden retired in 1994 after 35 years of service from the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority for the Hearing Impaired. His first two years of employment were at the Halifax School for the Deaf transferring to Amherst when the school was opened in 1961. Alden was a proud member of the Amherst Lions Club for over 35 years. During that time he held various offices including that of King Lion. In 2000 Alden was honoured by his club when they made him a Life Member. He also held the honour of being named Lion of the Year for the 1999-2000 year and again in 2003-2004. He was involved with the Canadian Council of the Blind and was President of the Nova Scotia - Prince Edward Island Division for over 10 years. At the local level he was instrumental in having the Cumberland CCB Club host the Sports Weekend for the Blind in Amherst on two occasions. In 1988 he had the honour of being named Volunteer of the Year at the Amherst Sports Awards Dinner. Alden has served on many boards for people with disabilities such as Cumberland Abilities Partnership Association, CNIB Advisory Board and the S.R. Hussey Scholorship Committee for blind or visually impaired student. He was also an associate member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Wing# 105 and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10. Alden will be sadly missed by his dancing partner, travel companion and wife of 21 years: Norma (Landry) Ripley, stepson: Philip Ripley and the joy of his life his two step-grandchildren: Karyn and Daniel Ripley for whom he opened his heart and his home, also three sisters: Eileen, Victoria B.C., Marilyn (Jack) VanWart, Quispamsis, N.B., Sharon, Saint John, four brothers: Kenneth (Freda) Toronto, Ont., Oswald (Sylvia) Qualicum, B.C. Sherman, London, Ont., Paul (Linda) Saint John, N.B. plus several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Also sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Donald VanBuskirk of Halifax. Alden was predeceased by his first wife : Agnes Sharpe in 1980 and a sister in infancy Mary Jacqueline. Visitation will be held at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst on Sunday, July 11, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 12, 2004 at 10 a.m. from St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Following cremation interment will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery, Port Elgin, N.B. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center or the Cumberland Regional Library for large print books or a charity of your choice. www.campbellsfh.com
