Clarence Gates HALIFAX - It is with sadness that the family and friends announce the death of Clarence Gates (56) of Halifax. Born in Amherst, NS, he was the son of Charles and the late Rita (Arsenault) Gates of Shinimicas, NS. Clarence operated an antique store and flea market. He worked mining in Manitoba and cooked for a company in Quebec. Clarence is survived by his wife Josiane Vandal, sons Louis and Alan Gates, all of Quebec; sisters, Margaret Haynes (Gary), Joan Reid (Billy), Tammy Gates (Doug Forrester) and Kelly Grimmitt (George), all of NS; brothers, Murray (Sue) of Ontario, Joseph (Sandra) of NS, and a special friend Megan Sullivan. Besides his mother, Clarence was predeceased by his grandparents Margaret (nee Hape) and Charles Gates, and Martha (nee Purdy) and Clarence Arsenault Special thanks to Dr. Donald Fay of Halifax for his special care. Visitation was held on Sunday from the Furlong-Jones Chapel, 64 Church St. from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service was held from the chapel on Monday, August 13, 2007 at 2pm with Rev. Steve Longmoore officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Those wishing to make donations in Clarence's memory may do so to the IWK. www.furlongjones.ca
