TRURO - Donald Chapman Dernier, 89, Truro, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Fort Lawrence, he was a son of the late Lorne and Emma (Chapman) Dernier. Donald was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas in the RCAF. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro. He worked at Enamel and Heating Company in Amherst for several years and later worked as a letter carrier in Amherst and then in Truro for several years. He was a long-standing member and former elder of Brunswick Street United Church, Truro. Donald was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Betty Elaine Forrest; son, Colin (Arlene), Fall River; daughters, Sheila Dernier (Stephen Boyd), Truro; Christina (Rev. Ian Wissler of Mahone Bay); grandchildren, Alexander, Nicolas, Lauren, Jonah; brother Lorne (Betty) Dernier, Fort Lawrence. He was predeceased by a brother, Colin Dernier. Visitation was 7-9 p.m Wednesday and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, conducted a legion tribute service Wednesday at 7 p.m., both at Mattatall Funeral Home, Truro. A memorial service was held Thursday, at 2 p.m. in Brunswick Street United Church, Truro, with Rev. David Lutes officiating. A reception followed in the church hall. Burial took place in Bible Hill Cemetery, Bible Hill.
