RIVER HEBERT - It is with great sadness the family of Donald M. Porter, age 78, of River Hebert E. announce his passing on Wednesday, April 23, 2008. Born in River Hebert E., he was a son of the late Melbourne and Mary (Stevens) Porter. A mechanical engineer, he retired from the Canadian Coast Guard in 1991 with 24 years of service, having served on the "Labrador" and the "Henry Larsen". In early years, he worked in area coal mines. A member of the River Hebert United Baptist Church, Donald enjoyed card playing, doing puzzles and gardening. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Donald will be sadly missed by 2 daughters, Nancy (Allan) McDonald, and Donna (Bob) Fortin, both of Ottawa, ON; a son Dale (Brenda), River Hebert E.; 6 grandchildren, Katie, James, Zoe, Jenna, Elie and Jean-Luc. Always remembered by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Christina (Greencorn) in 2003, a son, Donald in 1955; brothers and sisters, Daisy, Lois, Garnet, Joseph and Merle. The remains are resting at the River Hebert and Joggins Community Funeral Home, with visitation Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The funeral service will be held at the River Hebert United Baptist Church on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 2 pm. Burial in the River Hebert Cemetery, reception to follow.
