JOY LOUISE (nee GUNN) HARRISON
HARRISON, JOY LOUISE (nee GUNN) - On Friday September 24, 2004 in Ottawa, our Lord called Joy, age 73, into His kingdom of eternal life. Joy is now free of her cancer and its accompanying Paraneoplastic Cerebeller Degeneration. Born in Saint John, NB she is the daughter of the late James and Maud Gunn. Beloved wife of 50 years of Ken Harrison. Loving mother of Doug (Sue), Bill (Linda) and Sue Jalkanen (Tim). Cherished "Grandma" to Christine, Colin, Kiera and Melanie. Well loved "Nana" to Alex and John. Dear sister of Ellen, Gertrude and Rose and eight other predeceased brothers and sisters. Joy and Ken met and were married in Montreal, where they lived until moving to Ottawa in 1978. Joy was an associate of the Sisters of the Society of St. Margaret. Her greatest happiness was always in being able to help others, as exemplified in the 17 years she operated her bed and breakfast for people with relatives in the Ottawa Heart Institute or the Civic Hospital. Her warmth and caring attitude provided strength to her guests and helped calm their nervousness for their loved ones. Friends may call on the Tubman Funeral Homes, Westboro Chapel, 403 Richmond Road, Ottawa on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A service in celebration of Joy's life will be held at St. Richard's Anglican Church, 8 Withrow Ave., Ottawa on Wednesday at 11am including inurnment of her ashes into St. Richard's Columbarium. The family extends their thanks to all of the angels at St. Vincent's and Elisabeth Bruyere, and their earlier home care, for such wonderful and loving care. Also to the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa for operating such fine hospitals.
