WILLIAM PATRICK "BILL" LENIHAN
LENIHAN, WILLIAM PATRICK "BILL" - 80, Dartmouth, passed away September 28, 2004, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Saint John, N.B., May 29, 1924, he was a son of the late Francis K. and Mary T. (Doherty) Lenihan. Bill attended St. Vincent's Boys High School, graduating in 1941. Upon graduation, Bill became a radio (wireless) operator with what was to become the Canadian Coast Guard, until his retirement after 41 years in 1984. He served in Saint John and Dartmouth on many of the Coast Guard ships, although primarily the CCGS Narwhal, as radio officer. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 002, Saint John. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Florence (Bagnell) (Smith); stepsons, Oz (Heather) Smith, Grand Desert; Alfred Smith, Sussex, N.B.; James (Nancy) Smith, Dartmouth; brother, Walter (Connie) Lenihan, LaSalle, Que.; sister-in-law, Betty Lenihan, Saint John, N.B.; grandchildren, Chelsea, Connelly, Colby, Leona, and James; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Francis and his wife Gerry, and Robert "Bob"; sisters, Alice and her husband Stanley Montague, and Mary and her husband David Ingram. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 30, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with a memorial service Friday, October 1, at 2 p.m., both in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St, Dartmouth. Graveside service will be held Saturday, October 2, at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Cemetery, Saint John, N.B., Father Gary White officiating. Family flowers only.
