Heather Anne Arseneau Use all of your gifts that you have received and pass on the love that has been given to you by me. AMHERST - Family and friends of Heather Arseneau sadly must inform you that she has left this place we call earth to begin greater works in heaven on Monday, March 12, 2007 at her home on Pleasant Street. Born in Amherst on November 16, 1965, she was the oldest child of Fred "Junior" (Pat) Arseneau and Sandra (DesBarres) (Robert) LaPierre. She was a dear sister to Mark (Becky) of Hastings and Bruce (Susan) of Amherst. Heather is survived by her loving soul-mate and faithful partner of 26 years Edwin Cooke. She will be missed by her nephews Kiley and Nate Arseneau and her chosen niece Kiersten White, several Aunts, uncles and cousins as well as numerous other sisters and brothers in law, nieces and nephews. Heather was predeceased by paternal grandparents Fred and Lillian (Burke) Arseneau and maternal grandparents Harold and Dorothy (Nix) DesBarres. Heather was a faithful member of Highland AME Church as well as being adherent to Nativity of Our Lady Parish. Throughout her short stay on earth Heather has touched many lives, she was many things to many people: a loving daughter, thoughtful sister, life long partner, doting Aunt, kind niece, considerate granddaughter, loyal friend, good neighbor, dedicated community worker and a productive business woman. She received her education from Amherst Regional High School in 1985 and gave back to her community by remaining in Amherst. She worked as a Child Care provider in many of the Amherst Day Care Centers from 1985 - 1990. In 1985 she became a Home Care Provider to patients as well as forming a small janitorial service. She was involved in many non-profit organizations throughout her life starting with the Girl Guides of Canada as a young girl. Heather shared the operation of the handed down family business of Cooke's Garbage Disposal with her partner Edwin. As Vice Chair for the Board of Directors of Autumn House she worked hard to ensure the house would continue to be there for those in need. She was the Secretary for the Board of Directors of CANSA and was very active in the projects it provided the community. Heather assisted with establishing a Boxing Club in the Amherst area in 2005 for the youth and was heavily involved as an executive member as well as in the sport. Heather became active in the Relay for Life campaign in 2005 and has chaired the Survivors Reception while canvassing and participating in the annual event. Her gardening was a great pass time for her and will be left for all to enjoy as will be her works of art as she loved to share her talent of crafting and painting. Heather had an open door policy for her short and long term stays and her guests ranged from people to abandoned animals. She will be missed by her furry and feathered friends. With Heather's friendly personality, love for life, energy, passion to care for others she will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). Visiting hours will take place at the Furlong~Jones Chapel, 66 Church St. on Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place from the Chapel on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 11am.
