JOSEPH GILBERT SOLOMON FOURNIER

FOURNIER, JOSEPH GILBERT SOLOMON - Gilbert S. Fournier, of 1 Eldon Lane, Grand Bay-Westfield, NB., passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, January 8, 2005 after a brief illness with lung cancer. Born in Pointe Verte, NB., June 18, 1925, he was the son of the late Joseph Leon and Marie Leontine (Perry) Fournier and husband of 33 years to the late Carmeline (Guitard) Fournier. He was a carpenter by trade and retired in June 1990 from Rothesay Paper after being disabled by arthritis in June of 1983. Gilbert was a member of the Canadian Paper Worker's Union Local #601 and a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Grand Bay. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #9176. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed his friends in the retiree club. Gilbert is survived by his son George Fournier, Reade Street, Moncton, NB.; daughters Clarisse Paterson, Saint John, NB., and Marie Anne Fournier, North Bay, ON.; brother Nazaire (Carmel) Fournier, Thunder Bay, ON.; grandchildren Robert (Jocelyn) Paterson, Belmont, Saint John, NB., Gregory (Tanya) Paterson, King Street East, Saint John, NB., Michael Fournier, Moncton, NB., Julie Fournier, Moncton, NB., Jeffrey Glaza, Pettiwawa, ON., and Jennifer Glaza, North Bay, ON.; great grandchildren Katherine, Megan, Lydia, and Sarah Paterson; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Joan Campbell of Grand Bay, NB. In addition to his wife and parents, Gilbert was predeceased by his infant son Jean Paul; brothers Leon, Gerard, Benoit, and Adrien; and sisters Leontine and Gilbertte. Arrangements under the care and direction of Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home (634-1701). At his request, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 1:00 pm in St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Grand Bay-Westfield, NB., with a reception immediately following the service in the church hall. Interment will be July 9, 2005 in St. Augustine's Church Cemetery, Westfield on the anniversary of Carmeline's passing.
