Anita Leblanc

DARTMOUTH, N.S. - Peacefully, at the Dartmouth General Hospital, on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, Anita LeBlanc, age 84, passed away after a lengthy illness, while surrounded by her loving family. Born in St. Andre, NB, she was a daughter of the Late Philiose and Lavinia (Cormier) Lorette. The daughter of a logger, Anita grew up in various logging communities around Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. After the war broke out, she joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp from 1942 to 1946, serving in Saint John, N.B. While in service, she met her first husband Arthur and became his dedicated military wife in 1946. A strong mother, she raised her family of 10 across many different army bases and communities in the Maritimes. After moving to Amherst in 1960 she attended the Nativity Of Our Lady Parish where she was an active member of the CWL. Anita will be sadly missed by her many children, Richard (Bing), Ottawa, Laurie, Aulac, Sylvia (Bob), Halifax, Lorraine (Paul), Sackville, N.S., Margaret (Lawrence), Bedford, Gerald (Kathryn), Lakeside, Patrick (Celia), Shelburne, Anita, Amherst, Denise (Dexter), Dartmouth and Andrew (Janice), Amherst, 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother Albert, Cambridge, Mass., and sisters, Doris Girouard, Amherst, Evangeline Tanner, Halifax, Elizabeth Lirette, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her first husband Arthur Melanson in 1975 and her second husband Cecil LeBlanc in 2006, as well as several brothers and sisters. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Family Parish Church on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 11 a.m., Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Burial of the ashes will take place in the St. Charles - Nativity Cemetery in the spring. Those wishing to make a donation may do so to the charity of your choice. www.furlongjones.ca
