Beatrice Joyce "Betty" MacLean AMHERST - We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Beatrice Joyce "Betty" MacLean of Amherst and formerly of St. Anns, Cape Breton on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 in Gables Lodge, Amherst at the age of 79, with her family by her side. Born in Moncton, she was a daughter of the late Malcolm and Mammie MacDonald. Betty spend most of her life in the field of care giving as a PCW at Alderwood Nursing Home in Cape Breton and Victoria Manor in Amherst. Following her retirement, she continued caring for people through Palliative Care, Christmas For Kids, fundraising for Canadian Cancer Society, Kidney Foundation as well as her time at Havelock Terrace with the Adult Day Program. She enjoyed knitting, cross-stitch, baking, solitaire, writing letters, watching various sports, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Immanuel United Church. Betty will always be remembered for her compassion and giving. Betty is survived by her children, Donald (Wang Li) of Indonesia, Forbes (Janet) of Brookdale, Bruce of Cambodia and Roy of Amherst; brothers, John (Sandi) Brown of Connecticut and Jim Robertson of B.C.; special sister-in-law, Rena Butts of Ajax, Ont., 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and very special lifelong friend, Lexina Berry of Baddeck. Betty was predeceased by brothers Donald and Jack as well as sisters Freda, Raye and Helen. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 from 10 a.m., until the funeral service at 11 a.m., both from Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). Interment will take place in the spring in the Amherst Cemetery. Donations in Betty's memory can be made to Palliative Care, Amherst Food Bank or Christmas Kids. www.campbells-amherst.ca
