JAMES GREGORY MACKIN
MACKIN, JAMES GREGORY - It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of James Mackin, 83, of Digby, NS, on Thursday, March 10, 2005 surrounded by his family. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Moore) Mackin. Jim attended St. Malachy's High School and following graduation became a communications/ radio operator. He worked for the Dept. of Transportation before going to sea for both the Canadian and American Navy as a communications officer during the Second World War. He and his wife Helen settled in Nova Scotia in 1950 where they raised six children while working for the Dominion Atlantic Railroad for thirty-five years. He was predeceased by his wife Helen (Thompson); sister Katherine Ramsey and brother, Michael. He is survived by sisters Constance Gauthier, Saint John; Barbara Lawlor, Saint John; brothers, Phillip, Great Village, Colchester Co.; Richard, Dartmouth; children; James Gregory (Jocelyn), Port Williams; Deborah, Digby, Michael, Calgary; Kevin (Nancy), Digby, Catherine, Digby, Stephen (Alicia), Digby; grandchildren, Shannon, Digby; Gregory, Fredericton; Kinsey, Edmonton; Gillian, Port Williams, Alexandra, Moncton and Ayla, Digby. Visitation Sunday 7-9 PM with prayers at 8:30 PM Sunday, all in Jayne's Funeral Home, 7 Birch St., Digby. Funeral service 11:00 AM Monday at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Digby, with Father Keith Billard officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Donations in memory can be made to Islandview/ Tideview Terrace, Digby.
