DOUGLAS H. GUNTER

GUNTER, DOUGLAS H. - Colonel R.C.A. (Ret'd) C.D. Former Executive Director Canadian Figure Skating Association. On Friday, March 4, 2005 Douglas Gunter in his 84th year. Husband of Josephine (Durick) for 63 years, father of Richard (Yvonne) of Brandon Man. and Anne (Mark Brigham) of Regina, Sask., grandfather of Amy and Ashley, Tony and Keltie and brother of Dorothy Thompson, Garth and Howard Gunter, all of New Brunswick. Douglas graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1942 before joining the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery in which he served for 32 years. A veteran of WWII operations in Northwest Europe (12 Field Regiment, R.C.A.), Korea and Peacekeeping duties in Cyprus. He held various command and staff appointments including Commander A Battery, RCHA, Brigade Major 3 CIBG, Commandment Canadian School of Artillery and Base Commander CFB Shilo, Man. He was Director of Land Requirements and Director of Artillery on retirement in 1974. He than became Executive Director of the Canadian Figure Skating Association serving in various capacities for 17 years and is currently an Honorary Member of that association. Visitation and funeral service were held on March 9, 2005 at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry in Ottawa. As expression of sympathy memorial contribution to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
