Delmar Duffy AMHERST - Delmar Duffy, age 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the John M. Gillis Memorial Lodge, Belfast, P.E.I. on Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Delmar was born in Nappan, NS, in 1920, the son Of the late Charles & Beatrice (Gould) Duffy. He is survived by his son, James of Charlottetown, PEI; daughters, Phyllis (Gord) Simons of Amherst, NS, Constance Carruthers of Charlottetown, PEI and Lynn (John) Welcher of New Maryland, NB; sister, Helen Rowe of Amherst, as well as 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Diana (Hebert) and sons, Joseph, Charles and Gerald; brother, Chalmer and sisters, Eileen and Edith Delmar worked at Robb’s Engineering as well as 40 years with the Nappan Experimental Farm until his retirement in January 1980. He was the Nova Scotia Plow Champion in 1951, 1952 and 1953 winning the Honourable A.W. MacKenzie Trophy. He also represented Nova Scotia in the International Plowing Match in Cobourg, ON. He was a volunteer canvasser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Kidney Foundation and the Cancer Society. He was a member of the Catholic Men’s League, as well as a member of the Cemetery Committee. He was active in the Boy Scouts of Canada, and a former member of the Cumberland Twirlers Square Dancers. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Friday, May 2, 2008 at the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, 68 Church St., Amherst. A celebration of Delmar’s life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 10 am at the Holy Family Parish, Amherst.
