
REV. REGINALD KING
KING, REV. REGINALD - Rev. Reginald King, 82, of MacKinnon Road, Miramichi, NB passed away peacefully on Friday morning June 3, 2005 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. Born in Douglasfield, NB, son of the late Joseph and Mary Anne (Bracken) King. Fr. Reginald King was ordained priest May 18, 1950, St. Michael's Church Chatham, NB, by Bishop Camille André LeBlanc. Fr. Reg had done his undergraduate studies at St. Thomas University, Chatham, NB (BA 1944) and his Theology at Holy Heart Seminary, Halifax, NS. Fr. King served in the ministry of the Church for 55 years, the first nine years in the Diocese of Bathurst, the remaining years in the Diocese of Saint John - all in the Miramichi Region. His first appointment was Chaplain, Hotel Dieu Hospital and Convert, Chatham, NB. All subsequent appointments were to parish ministry. he was assistant at St. Michael's Parish, Chatham for five years, followed by four years at St. Patrick's, Nelson Miramichi. His first appointment as pastor was in 1962 to St. Patrick's, Stanley, with missions in Napadogan and McGivney. There followed pastorates in St. Joachim's, Boiestown, with missions in Doaktown and Blissfield; St. Raphael's in Blackville, with missions at Howard; St. Patrick's, Nelson Miramichi, where he spent seven years. His final appointment was pastor at St. Samuel's, Douglastown, from where he retired in 1994. Fr. king had hosts of friends and enjoyed simple things of life, a weekly game of cards, visits to friends, the sick, and residents in institutions. He loved to socialize where he enjoyed his fellow priests and so many others, and above all, everyone enjoyed his wit and humor. Fr. King's ministry has been described by the people he served as being joyful, positive, and faith filled. He was always available and was a source of encouragement to all. Fr. King is survived by his sisters, Marie Trevors of Miramichi, Eileen Fitzpatrick (Gerald) of Nelson; brother, Percy (Pearl) of Miramichi. Several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Josephine, William, Fernandez, Augusta, Joe, John and Alice. Rev. Reginald King rested at Maher's Funeral Home, Miramichi on Sunday evening from 7-9 and Monday 2-4. He will lay in state on Monday from 7-9 at St. Michael's Basilica, Miramichi. Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at 11AM from St. Michael's Basilica, Miramichi, with Most Rev. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Irving, Ray Gallant, Lawrence O'Shea, Michael Hennessey, Vincent McCarthy, Raymond Savage. Readers were Grand-nephews Bradley Lynch and Grand-niece Patti MacLean. Intercessants was Sister Burns. St. Michael's Senior Choir organist Norma Campbell. Internment in St. Michael's Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Miramichi, NB.
