GAY, C. VERNON - 79, Berwick, formerly of Coldbrook, Kings Co. passed away Friday June 17, 2005, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born on April 11, 1926, he was a son of the late Albert Andrew and Lavinia Bethia (Cannon) Gay. Raised and educated in Summerside, P.E.I., he joined the army late in World War II and was released on a disability pension at the end of the war. Married in 1947 to M. Ethel (Martin), he worked for Schurman's Building Supplies in Summerside before re-enlisting in the military in 1957. He served as a bookkeeper and procurement officer in the army's ordinance corps until retiring from the military in 1976 after postings to Borden, Ont. (1958-63), Egypt (1963-64), Base Gagetown, N.B. (1964-71) and Ottawa, Ont. (1971-76). At that time the Department of National Defence re-hired him in the same position, as a civilian employee. Retiring in 1985, he relocated to Kentville, then Coldbrook, N.S. He is survived by his wife, M. Ethel (Martin) Gay, Berwick; son, Bill (Marty) Gay, Yarmouth, N.S.; daughters, Joan (John) Davies, Saint John, N.B.; Marilyn (Bruce) Driscoll, Burton, N.B.; grandchildren, Richard Graves, Saint John, N.B.; Michael Graves, Edmonton, Alberta; Dylan (Shirley) Driscoll, Gander, N.L.; Shauna Driscoll, Fredericton, N.B.; great-grandchildren, Devon and Emily Graves; Norah Driscoll; stepgrandchildren, Gary Laffin, Windsor, Ont.; Corinne Laffin, Yarmouth; step-great-grandchildren, Ashley and Reece Laffin; Brandon Hurlburt; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a son, Ronald Gay; sister, Estella Clements; brothers, Howard and Bill Gay. There will be no visitation. Royal Canadian Legion and Funeral Service was held 2 p.m. Monday June 20, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick (902-538-9900), Pastor Kay Dean D.M. officiated. A second service will be held July 15 in the Moase Funeral Home, Summerside, P.E.I. at a time to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, the Salvation Army or any branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
